Relevance of the topic. In the last decade of the twentieth century the problem of the status of metaphor in conceptual theory began to attract the attention of linguists, as there was impetus for the development of cognitive science. Cognitive metaphor appeared in Focus on research of prominent linguists: J. Lakoff, M. Johnson, M. Black and others. Background of the study is due to orientation today Linguistic Studies in better understanding of the functioning of cognitive metaphor in literary discourse. The suggested approach installation features of cognitive metaphor in a new detective, as provides a comprehensive analysis of the implementation of cognitive metaphor in terms of translation. Modern linguistics is characterized by an increase in interest in lexical substandards that are important in the formation of language picture of a particular region. Slang - one of these linguistic phenomena that goes the scope of the common rules. Translated in English, the term means either socially or professionally language separate group as opposed to literary language, spoken language or option that is different from the norm literary language 1. We know that slang expression makes more compact and expressive, and serves as a marker of the environment in which or social stratum belongs to man. Humor, irony, broad synonymy, ease of construction of expression contributes to the rapid spread of slang among speakers of other groups. The most active young people use slang. This is due primarily considerable range of human contact during 12-35 years: social, educational, Professional and others. Thus, youth slang forms the subsystem of slang. Lexical composition Youth Speech is changing (by research scientists - every 2-3 years). This is the reason for the active interest linguists to study the origins, development and characteristics spread of youth slang among speakers of other age groups. A special place among these scientific studies has the study of slang in English. The purpose of the course work to show features of cognitive metaphor in modern English slang.

The book of American linguists George Lakoff and Mark Johnson «Metaphor We Live by» (1980) 2 sets out the basis of the cognitive approach to metaphor as linguistic, cognitive and cultural phenomenon. The scientific aspects of the study of this phenomenon in linguistics and philosophy and the role of metaphor in modern society, in everyday communication between people are discussed. Particular attention is drawn to the possibility of using metaphors as a means of understanding reality as a tool for the organization of human experience, structuring his knowledge of reality.
