Donald Kagan. "Democracy Requires a Patriotic education." The Wall Street Journal 26 sep.  2014.
Summary:
The article "Democracy Requires a Patriotic Education" that appears in  The Wall
Street Journal
on september 26 ilustrates the what the government want to do in school, they  want to include in school patriotism. In the article shows that some important figures of the  American history and other important people from other countries want to include this in their  education.

I completely disagree with the fact that patriotism should promoted at schools to help  democracy although the article make some good points like when it said “They reason that if a  state or a community is to be good, its citizens must be good…”, I could see how making the  teachers and faculty at a school give a patriotic education for the kids, would make them  better citizens for what is democracy. I disagree with the fact that you would have to force the  kids to become patriots, I believe that patriotism should be a choice, that it should be forced  upon anyone. Democracy its a matter of ones personal opinion and by forcing a patriotic  education upon children, although it might make communities work better, it is not the  governments right to force any kind of education upon their citizens. Mr. Kagan also made a  reference to a historical figure, Thomas Jefferson he said “Jefferson regarded education as  essential to the establishment of and maintenance of good policy”, although I agree with this  statement establishing a good policy is different than forcing someone to behave, think or act  in a patriotic way. I believe that a community can have a “good policy” and still have the  freedom to think and act however they choose to. If you want a good democracy give the  people the option to think differently. ...
