Writing Assignment 1

1) In Clutter, Zinsser asks readers to avoid unneccessary words,phrases and meaningless jargon. I feel clutter explains a really important point that many of us ignore. We may sound great and interesting but lot many words may be unnecessary in our speech. Clutter is nothing but crowd the words untidily.Here, Zinsser mentioned many points regarding the use of unnecessary phrases with a thought that they seem intellectual.He also brought up the point about politicians confusing the public with their speech with unnecessary big words to make seem that they have done all they promised.It would be irritating if it is especially addressing a big and important issue. The words politicians use to make them sound like they are answering all the questions and talking in the favor of people. when the truth comes out that everything is done for their personal benefits pains us a lot.

2) Professional jargon is also censured by Zinsser, as are long words when shorter words would suffice.  Zinsser emphasizes not to use faddish words.Even he concludes his writing by using different criticized bad word choices .

3) Orwell says, The first are dying metaphors, or over-used phrases such as Achilles heel make prose difficult to understand. Orwell explains that Although these are used frequently,they reduce the understandability of the reader.He explains with different examples how these phrases changed when altered and even sometimes makes no sense.Orwell also warns that these dying metaphors do not mean what they are meant for.They sometimes change the meaning of the entire speech.
