II. MAIN REVIEW OF THE BOOK

BOOK REVIEW TITLE
Why is the book given such title?
As we all know it is important to readers to understand the book through its title, just by reading the title the readers can know what is the content of the book. “Agricultural Economics” just by seeing this title the topic will easily pop into your head and know that the main topic of the book is about agriculture. This book focuses about topics such as Philippine agricultural development programs, analysis of agrarian reform, capitalist agriculture and many more. As you can see, this book only concern is about improving agriculture economy. The author wants to let the readers know that the content of the book will only focuses on the life of people who are related in improving our agriculture economy.

If you were to give a new title of the book, what would that be ? If I were to give this book a new title I will name it “ Agriculuture : Foundation of economy and society”. This is the title I will give to this book because I want the readers to know how important agriculture to our society and because this book also talks about how agriculture helps in building our economy, how the world development moves because of agriculture.

III. SETTING

Describe a brief setting of the content.
The book focuses on the Philippines agriculture especially on rural areas. It conveys the programs that Philippines have in order to improve our country’s agriculture field. Agricultural economics is not only concerned with the economic efficiency but also with the social equity. Maximum profits in agriculture become most meaningful if these go to the small farmers and other depressed groups in the rural areas who depend on agriculture. Unfortunately, this has never been the case in reality. The promise of good life for the good life for the small farmers appears only in government plans and programs. In contrast , the farmers in the United States, Japan, Israel, Taiwan and other progressive countries enjoy a high standard of living. This book also compare the Philippines in other countries that are able to maintain their good status without changing their own culture and traditions. Rural areas are likely the main point of the book because in this places agriculture is very important, and in rural areas they are more lands that they can use rather than in urban places which is full of buildings. Rural areas are the start of the production this where the products are grown and harvested and export it to many places. Japan, Israel, Taiwan and Korea are given a highlight in this book because , the book wanted to convey the programs they pursue to be able to improve their agriculture.

WORDS/ TERMS/ CONCEPT

Feudalism was a set of legal and military customs in medieval Europe that flourished between the the 9th and 15th centuries, which, broadly defined, was a system for structuring society around relationships derived from the holding of land in exchange for service or labour. In Japan early years, at the top of their social structure was the emperor. However he was only a figurehead. Real power came from the shogun, the military governor. The latter were formerly farmers who were given the right to carry firearms. They were to serve the landlord in times of war. Lands were owned by the feudal lords. They had wide discretion in the administration of...
